Confidence high in the camp

TUESDAY night's win over Willenhall took us third – which just goes to show how important putting a run of back-to-back wins together can be.

A good run can make the difference but it's still so tight at the top there are probably eight teams who think they have a chance of lifting the title.

We're one of them, of course, and now we're in a position where if we win our game in hand over Sheffield and Kidsgrove, we will go top.

So we are confident going into this Saturday's big derby at home to Rushall.

I'm from Coventry, so not too aware of the geography but when you speak to the fans, they reiterate how big a game it is.

We have beaten Rushall in two cups this season and in the second game we won convincingly 4-1 at their place.

They had us watched on Tuesday but I think we've added some strings to our bow by tweaking our usual 3-5-2 formation, we're not as predictable as we maybe have been and it's tough for sides to work us out.

But I'm expecting a tough game – they will want to make up for those defeats and they certainly won't want us to do the treble over them.

I still don't think we've really hit top form, although we're getting there and if we can get a couple more wins before Christmas, it really puts us in a good position.

If we're up there in the New Year, I would really fancy our chances – partly because of our strength in depth.

We had a great bench on Tuesday and if we suffer a couple of injuries, there are good players who can come in – I don't think many teams at this level have that quality.

The Willenhall win was a comfortable one – it could have been three, four or more – but we had to come from behind against Stamford for the second Saturday on the trot.

At half-time against Goole last week, Charlie made us aware that whenever we had gone behind this season we ended up losing so it was nice to show – twice – that we can come from behind.

I'd like to round off with a word for Andy Cox, who has been promoted from the reserves to become Charlie's assistant manager – he has the respect of all the lads and we look forward to working closer with him.
