Birmingham League Premier Division

Kenilworth Wardens CC (206-7) drew with Walsall CC First XI (229-8)

WALSALL ended a poor season on a good note as they claimed a winning draw at fourth-placed Kenilworth Wardens.

Having banished any worries of the drop the previous week, the 14 points gained from this game meant Walsall finished ninth in the 12-team Premier.

But it was a far cry from the previous three seasons, in which Walsall have finished as champions.

They showed flashes of that type of form at Kenilworth as the impressive Richard Rawlinson (52), Mo Sheikh (40), Andy Miller (51) and Andy Gray (34) helped them post a useful total of 229-8.

In reply, a few early wickets gave Walsall hope of an outright victory with Gareth Williams (1-54), skipper Paul Wicker (1-16), Gray (3-35) and Sheikh (1-21) all claiming scalps.

But Walsall could not break Wardens' eighth wicket partnership of Young (91no) and Vernon (36no) as Kenilworth batted out for a losing draw, falling 23 runs short at 206-9.
