College prepares to open the doors to 'world class' campus

THE keys to Walsall College's new £64 million campus have been handed over ahead of taking on its first students in September.

Chief executive of Walsall College, Amarjit Basi, collected the keys from Shepherd Construction as the final touches were made to the new Wisemore Campus.

Standing prominently in Walsall town centre, the campus boasts more than 100 teaching rooms including an art salon, restaurant and gym.

"I am delighted to be receiving the keys to the borough's best kept secret – Walsall College's brand new Wisemore Campus – on behalf of our students, staff and governors," said Mr Basi.

"It is great to see all the planning and hard work coming to fruition."

A number of staff from the college's IT services, estates, cleaning and security departments are now onsite carrying out the final fit-out of equipment required for staff and students to move into the building.

Staff will then begin transferring to the new campus over the summer period and it will officially open its doors for learning at the beginning of the new academic year in September.

Mr Basi, added: "This is an exciting time to be part of Walsall College, and particularly for all those students who will begin the new academic year in our new world class facilities.

"Our intention is that the new Wisemore Campus will be at the very heart of Walsall's community and that we will become known, not just as Walsall College, but Walsall's College, fulfilling the regeneration agenda through bringing talent to life and up-skilling people across our communities."

The new campus will be officially unveiled on Saturday, July 18.
