Sickness levels targeted at Walsall Council

WALSALL Council is to target staff sickness levels as part of its corporate safety plan.

The plan is expected to be discussed at next week's cabinet meeting and councillors will consider a range of options in a bid to improve the health and safety of its workforce.

Steps under consideration in this year's plan include encouraging safer working, reducing accidents, work related sickness absence and the initiation of a risk management action plan led by the corporate management team.

Councillor Chris Towe, portfolio holder for finance said: "Walsall Council has never been safer, but our sickness absence remains a challenge. "It's prudent for us to learn from other public and private sector organisations that have successfully managed to reduce sickness levels."
