Blocked drains show us how the council care

WALSALL MBC have spent thousands of pounds in the centre of Aldridge having a large section block-paved, with other sections cleared of shrubs then grassed over.

Yet the drains in Anchor Road and Portland Road have not been cleaned for over three years. This is clearly evident since the first of the yellow lines were put down over drain cover sections blocked by dirt, and again the next renewed lines also went over the top of the dirt.

As a result, three drains are now blocked. One, by the bus shelter opposite the Avion, is highly dangerous, completely full of silt, filling over with water when it rains.

An attempt to repair is useless since the drain cover has subsided into the roadway. Is the council waiting until some poor cyclist or pedestrian is hurt, or worse, killed, because the danger is not evident?

Also the block-paved crossing area outside Morrisons is breaking up because water is undermining the road foundations.

Not only that, but Aldridge is litter-strewn, and the only way to stop it is to fine those responsible and tackle the problem. Why is it that no action has been taken, either on litter or the drains? Letters to our local councillor were ignored until finally I wrote to the council chief executive.

His reply states that 'the issue you have raised is currently being investigated, and you will be contacted again with a full response by March 12.' Being generous, an hour's investigation would be adequate. Is the official responsible so busy that an hour cannot be spared?

So much for the attention and care from Walsall MBC.
