I don't believe MP over resignation

Monday, June 29, 2009, 10:17

HAVING read your article regarding Andrew Mitchell resigning one of his directorships, one reportedly with a remuneration of around £140,000, I find it remarkable that he expects us to believe he is standing down to concentrate on the general election.

If this is the reason, it begs the question why he never relinquished this directorship at the last election?

Is it merely a coincidence that he has resigned two weeks before all MPs will be required to disclose full details of their earnings outside of their basic commons salary as well as how much time they spend on these roles?

Like many MPs, Andrew Mitchell is calling for openness and transparency. Well now would be a good time for Mr Mitchell to lead from the front and publish all of his directorships, how much time he spends on them and how much remuneration he has been paid.

What makes me think a very dark place will freeze first?
