Brownhills market re-opens to shoppers
More than 4,000 flocked to the re-vamped Silver Street site on Saturday visiting the 80 stalls which have been snapped up by market traders.
The venue had closed in May this year after the 40-year market site closed, when operators Spook Erections declined to renew their lease, with Walsall Council stepping in to manage the site.
To mark the grand re-opening on Saturday among the attractions were a fun fair, face painting and stilt walker visiting the market.
Councillor Adrian Andrew, Walsall Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: "It's been fantastic. It's good to see so many people turn out and support their market.
"We stepped in as a council to bring this market back to life. Seeing these crowds I know it was the right thing to do."
The butcher had a queue of people waiting for him to open up, many former regulars.
"Shoppers and traders alike deserve a pat on the back," Cllr Andrew said.
"If things continue to prosper who knows? We can start to think about adding days."
While returning to business Walsall Trading Standards said they would be keeping a close eye on the market to combat counterfeiters.
Bootleggers are warned that staff will be monitoring products sold to ensure the market maintains a high standard.
Brownhills Market will open in Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am until 4pm.
