Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 08:00

A massive £100 million is to be pumped into funding ambitious improvements in Walsall's primary schools over the next decade.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families is to plough the cash into the borough's primary schools under a drive to transform education.

Walsall Council is one of 41 local authorities across the country to secure funding from the DCSF.

Walsall Children's Services and Serco will now consult with key partners on the best use of the money.

Councillor Zahid Ali, Walsall Council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "The many months of hard work in putting this bid together and our endless meetings with ministers in exerting pressures has reaped rewards.

"I want to congratulate all of our staff who have worked tirelessly to make this a success.

"I am delighted that our sound educational strategy has been recognised at a national level and that the DCSF is giving us this opportunity to invest in the future."
