A YOUTH centre in Bloxwich has reopened after undergoing a £35,000 makeover.

Youngsters who use Mossley Youth Centre, in Sneyd Lane, helped with the refurbishment.

The improvements included a new toilet and an upgrade for the entrance.

Walsall Council secured cash from the Youth Capital Fund Plus for the building work.

It also received funding for activities from the Youth Opportunity Fund.

Councillor Rachel Walker, cabinet member for children's services, said: "I'm sure young people in the area will enjoy the great range of positive things to do in their spare time.

"I hope as many young people, their parents and members of the community go along to see for themselves the type of things on offer.

"I'm sure this will be a great place for young people to gather and take advantage of the various services on offer, with the added bonus of back-up support from the youth workers."

An open day was held on Monday for parents and other members of the community to learn more about the services on offer.

The youth centre is open three evenings and three days a week to provide activities for 13 to 19-year-olds.

There are sessions for young women, young men and young mothers.

An internet café and homework support club will also be provided by Walsall Council's Integrated Young People's Support Services.

From 3pm to 5pm today, Thursday, the homework with cyber gym club will be launched.

The internet café is open from 6pm until 8pm.

On Friday, a young women's session to mark International Women's Day will take place from 6pm to 8pm.
