Away tie was hardly just reward for professional job
It wasn't pretty at times but the gulf in class between the top teams – and we are one of the top teams when it comes to the first round proper of the FA Cup – is measured, at least partially, by the number of match winners you have in your side.
We had two out and out match winners in Steve Jones and Darren Byfield and, in the end, for all of their industry, Stourbridge had none.
As for Chris Hutchings, his major task was to make sure the players approached the game in the right way, which they most certainly did.
That, of course, brings us to the one disappointment of the weekend.
When you are listening to the FA Cup second round draw, there's only one thing you want to hear and that's the name of your team coming out of the hat first.
At this stage, of course, we don't know whether it will be Brentford in the next round, or a trip in exactly the opposite direction, to the wild northlands and Gateshead.
But the club would have wanted, for financial reasons, a home tie to improve the prospects of reaching round three and setting up a possible game against one of the big boys.
Whichever of the two gets through, however, it's important that the team keeps it in mind that we are capable of beating either one of these two away from home.
There is now the tantalising glimpse of a cup run on the horizon, so let's keep it going!
