WOOD got the better of an in-form Heather St Johns team, who went into Saturday's game on the back of an eight-match unbeaten run.

After 15 minutes, Wood broke the deadlock when a poor clearance was put back into the box and Bilgimer outfoxed the defence with a great first touch before slotting home from eight yards.

The away side nearly found a way back into the game when goalkeeper Rollins had to scramble to his left to keep out a stinging shot.

Nghishidimbwa went close after the break, but with six minutes left Wood made the game safe as a speculative Deavall cross deceived the Heather keeper and bounced into the net.

Wood boss Rob Masefield said: "I was pleased with the way we applied ourselves. The back three were once again superb and, at the other end, Bilgimer and Nghishidimbwa are looking back to the best.

"We still have some big games to come and the challenge to the boys is to continue to produce the types of performances we have had over the last six weeks."

Wood entertain another in-form side in the form of Heath Hayes at Oak Park this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
