Tip Saddlers to triumph at Colchester

Bill Esdaile has written for the Racing Post, Sportsman, Sporting Life and the Smart Gambler. He had a weekly column in the Daily Telegraph during the World Cup and has previewed major betting events for the Financial Times, Shares Magazine and the Business.

Unfortunately, the magic of the FA Cup is over for another season at the Banks's Stadium.

League leaders Scunthorpe United are a tough nut to crack and so it proved at the weekend as the Saddlers went down 3-1.

Although we made money by backing the away win at 6/4, we were only seconds away from securing the 2-1 scoreline at 9/1 on Betdaq before Scunthorpe netted their third goal in stoppage time.

At least we also made a profit from the game by buying total goals at 2.6 with Sporting Index.

Jimmy Mullen will be disappointed his side are out of the Cup but they must now focus on the league and try to secure a place in the play-offs.

They travel down to Colchester United on Saturday and I am surprised that the bookies have installed United as 6/5 favourites.

The Essex outfit have only picked up five points from a possible 21 at home this season, which is quite comfortably the worst home record in the league.

Yes, the Saddlers were thrashed 3-0 in their last away league game, but not many people leave Elland Road with a point.

They also managed a respectable 2-2 draw at Leicester City just a few weeks ago.

And as a result, I'm only going to make one suggestion this week – back the Saddlers to win the game at 5/2 with Boylesports.
