Wood bounce back well from their mauling

Midland Combination Premier Division

Brocton 1

Walsall Wood 1

WOOD regained some pride after a midweek hammering at Heather St John's.

Boss Rob Masefield was absent for the 9-1 mauling at Heather due to work commitments but still termed it the worst performance of his reign.

He rung the changes and Wood bounced back well, beginning brightly as Ahmet Bilgimer hit the post but a moment of madness was to prove costly.

As Richard Deavall dispossessed the Brocton striker deep into his own half, he skipped past him only to be brought down.

The referee awarded a free-kick to Wood but Deavall went head-to-head with the offender and appeared to make contact. The referee had no hesitation in dismissing Deavall.

It looked gloomy when Brocton broke the deadlock on 53 minutes due to a Wood error as Cadman was dispossessed just in his own half and Fife's drive from 25 yards left keeper Gibson stranded.

But Wood survived a couple more hairy moments and levelled on 68 minutes as a clever ball from Huseyin Torgut found top scorer Bilgimer, who rounded the keeper to score.

● WOOD progressed in the JW Hunt Cup on Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over Wyrley Juniors.

Richard Deavall saw red in Walsall Wood's 1-1 draw at Brocton.
