Walsall Wood 1

Bartley Green 1

WOOD prepared for this Saturday's FA Cup preliminary-round tie at Dudley Town with a lukewarm display against Bartley – but were rescued by a late equaliser.

Rob Masefield's side produced a poor first-half performance and went behind on 25 minutes when poor marking left a Bartley man free to stroke home from seven yards.

In the second half, Wood played with more tempo, got closer to their opponents and looked sharper with the ball.

Even then they did not create a chance of note until the very last kick of the game when Nick Harris's free-kick led to a scramble in the box and Hussain Torgut poked home the equaliser.

Pershore 1

Walsall Wood 4

WALSALL Wood romped out of the starting blocks on Saturday with a comprehensive opening day win at Pershore.

They got their season off to a flyer within four minutes as a free-kick 20 yards out was smashed into the top corner by debutant Nick Harris.

However, Pershore levelled from close rangeafter Wood spurned numerous chances to clear the danger.

With half-time looming, the move of the match saw Wood regain the lead as Harris found Ahmet Bilgimer who beat the full-back with ease and delivered a pinpoint cross into the box for Harris to slot home.

Ryan Allmark scored the third and Scott Cooper the fourth.
