Walsall Wood 2

Bolehall Swifts 1

WOOD bounced back to wining ways despite a lacklustre performance against Bolehall Swifts on Saturday.

They got off to the best possible start after poor defending by Swifts saw the ball fall to the feet of Ahmet Bilgimer, who cleverly turned and shot home after just two minutes.

Wood again came out of the traps quickly in the second half.

Bilgimer chased down a through ball as the Swifts keeper collided with a defender, and Scott Cooper was on hand to rifle home from close range to make it 2-0.

Swifts pulled a goal back when Wood keeper Reeves came for a long ball.

However, his header at the edge of the box only found Scarborough, who looped the ball over the re-treating Larkins and into the net.

They almost levelled as a crashing drive from Gozzard came back off the post and Wood could have wrapped it up with an Allmark header that was well saved by Gibson but they held on.

Wood boss Rob Masefield said: "It was good to get back to winning ways.

"We have played a lot better and lost games in the last few weeks so to produce a below par performance and still get a result was pleasing.

"I know we have character in this team and we will need to produce a lot better performances over the next week if we are to gain anything from our next two fixtures."
