Zaaboub still drags his heels as Walsall seek first new signing
Hutchings failed to capture former Nottingham Forest defender Ian Breckin, who has opted to join League Two side Chesterfield to be nearer his Yorkshire home.
On the positive side, Walsall are believed to be offering a trial to winger Lewis Gobern, who has been released by Wolves. He spent part of last season on loan at Walsall's League One rivals Colchester United.
The youngster has been hit by injury over the last couple of seasons so the Saddlers are keen to check on his fitness before considering offering him a deal.
Walsall are also still waiting on a decision from the final member of last season's squad to sort out his future, Sofiene Zaaboub.
Hutchings set his players a deadline of the end of June to make their decision and that has already passed so the Frenchman's future is likely to be sorted within the next few days either way.
Walsall's first pre-season friendly is now just two weeks away when they visit Rotherham United on Saturday, July 18.
Sofiene Zaaboub is the final member of last season's squad to decide his future.
